The mother of a ninth grade student at a Florida charter school has filed a lawsuit against the school and Mega Party Events after her daughter allegedly suffered a serious brain injury during a sumo wrestling game on Spirit Day.
The incident occurred at Mater Academy Charter School in Hialeah Gardens. The lawsuit claims that Celaida Lissabet was “improperly fitted in the wrestling outfit, and wasn’t properly supervised during the match on Oct. 4, 2013,” local10.com reported. The family claims that Celaida suffered the head injuries because the company and the school failed to ensure that the helmet fit properly during the event, which took place last October.
Court Refuses to Review Florida Tobacco Verdicts for the 8th Time

For the 8th time in seven years, the Supreme Court has denied reviewing tobacco verdicts in Florida. Scotusblog.com, the blog of the Supreme Court, writes that this time around tobacco manufacturers asked the court to review 10 petitions in an effort to overturn individual damages verdicts that total more than $64 million. Companies filed all of the petitions on March 28th and raised questions about violations of constitutional due process. The request was denied by the Court without comment or noted dissents.
Five Injured When SUV Crashes Into Home

Five people were injured when an SUV crashed into a home in Pine Hills, Florida.
According to police, three people were taken to a nearby hospital while two others were treated at the scene. The crash happened around 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
